From Wichita, Kansas, the American Airlines flight was slated to land at the Ronald Reagan Washington Airport and according to specifications enlisted in its previously submitted flight plan to the FAA, the plane was expected to crash into the aforementioned Potomac hoovering water body. Prior to reaching the runway, the airplane collided mid air with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter.

In a prior Twitter post, Roger Marshall, a US Senator from Kansas stated, ‘Disheartening news to watch from the rest of the world. Also, the MPD pointed out that their helicopter was not part of the incident but was covering a multi-agency response. An eyewitness told CNN that they saw the plane falling. “At first, the plane seemed fine. It was descending, probably about 120 feet above the water. It looked like a normal-sized passenger jet,” the witness said. They furthermore described, “Within three seconds, the plane tilted entirely to the right, beyond 90 degrees. It was burning brightly in yellow flames, with sparks coming out from below.” All emergency protocols went into effect at Reagan National Airport after the accident and the airport was locked down. 19 bodies have been recovered so far while the rescue boats continue their search and rescue efforts in the Potomac River. We remain engaged with 19 bodies recovered and the boats still searching in the water. The investigation into this incident has commenced, and authorities are looking into reasons for the crash.
